For peace of mind it is nice to be able to see who is calling you from the front gate - you can more easily tell if it really is the meter reader by seeing his ID card or uniform than by the sound of their voice.

You can also leave the camera on if you are expecting somebody to keep an eye out for them, i.e. the pizza guy.  The camera picture can be displayed on wall mounted intercom stations, but as mentioned above this is not always convenient and requires a particularly large piece of wall acne to achieve this.  

The best solution is to modulate the gate picture onto a TV channel and have it visible on any television.  If required it is possible to have the picture pop up in a small window on your lounge display (picture in picture).
